I was literally on my way to the airport heading to Korea when I received an inquiry to photograph a proposal at Rockefeller Center the following week. As a photographer, I’ve learned that sometimes the most magical moments come with the tightest timelines. I’ve talked in past articles about how Photographing surprise proposals can be one of the most rewarding experiences for an events photographer. This particular message was from a client flying in from St. Louis with plans to propose to his girlfriend of 12 years at the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
My client found me through my VIP Rock Pass: Holiday Edition Tour Instagram Reel I posted about the previous year when the PR team invited me for the launch. The Top of the Rock has a special tour that includes:
The exclusive access meant fewer tourists to navigate around, and the private access would help me stay discreet while following their group. The best part? His now-fiancée had no idea I was there, capturing every genuine reaction.
And yes, she said yes! Their proposal photos now join the collection of love stories I’ve had the honor of capturing at this iconic New York landmark. There’s something special about being part of these moments, especially during the holidays when the city seems to sparkle just a little bit brighter with hope and romance. To my client: thank you for trusting me with your moment. May your lives together be as bright as the lights of that magnificent tree!
If you’d like professional photos of your proposal in NYC, don’t hesitate to reach out!
